General
For many people, gathering with close family and friends around the holidays can be a highlight of the year. Along with joy and connection, these family gatherings can also bring out tension, differences of opinion, and complex relationship dynamics. Join Leduc County Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) for three free sessions to learn tools and skills to navigate complex relationships with family and friends during the holiday season and year-round.
These three sessions are part of a series – you’ll register for the whole series but feel free to attend as many as you like.
Session 1: How to Preserve Relationships in Difficult Moments (Tuesday, Oct. 17)
Sometimes the people closest to us can act in ways that seem offensive or disrespectful. These moments do not have to end in conflict and bad feelings. Join us to learn ways to manage your important relationships even when things get challenging.
Session 2: Setting Boundaries (Tuesday, Oct. 24)
Many people struggle with knowing how to find a balance between caring for others and caring for themselves. Join us to learn more about how to recognize and set healthy boundaries, so you can maintain a healthy balance of time and energy in your own life (especially during the holiday season).
Session 3: Ending Relationships That Are Just Not Good For Us (Tuesday, Nov. 28)
There are times in our lives when we recognize that we need to end relationships with people that we still care about. Maybe we have outgrown the dynamic, or perhaps it is becoming a problem for us in some way. Ending relationships, especially with people who once mattered a great deal to us, is always a painful process. Join us to learn how to say goodbye with respect and care for what was, even if it can no longer be.
This series will be facilitated by Kim Silverthorn B.A., R.P.C., M.P.C.C., C.T. of Tacit Knowledge in Beaumont. Kim is a registered Master Practitioner of Clinical Counselling through the Canadian Professional Counsellors Association. She is also a registered Counselling Therapist with the Association of Counselling Therapy of Alberta with more than 30 years of experience.
